Storage space is required for a variety of reasons: to store things no longer in use, or to have more space to move around in and store items that are used daily like clothes, books, tools, shoes, etc. The list of storage needs is endless, and man has invented different types of storage products to this end. Basket storage maybe one of the oldest storage methods used, and is still very popular today, with one addition – that storage baskets are now available made from wire and plastic.
Wicker storage baskets are mostly used to stack dirty laundry in or to transport items that are not too heavy. Wicker storage baskets are traditionally woven baskets made from a variety of materials, depending on the fibre available in the area they are made. Storage baskets come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are used for storing things like knitting needles, newspapers, magazines and can be used as picnic baskets.
A place in any home that requires storage space is the bathroom. From shaving kits to towels and medicines and other bathroom items – they are all stored either on open shelves or in cupboards, depending on their usage. Of course, the size of the cupboards and shelves depends on the size of storage required plus the bathroom size. Bathroom storage shelves and cupboards are made from a variety of material that will not warp or rust with the steam and water found in the bathroom.
The next place in a house where storage space is required is the bedroom storage areas, and here there are cupboards to hang and stack clothes. There may be a dresser, and there will be bedside tables to keep books, medicines, etc in. In children’s bedrooms, plenty of storage space is required for keeping toys, books, and sports equipment, and these are usually stored on open shelves. Shoes maybe stored in shelves built into cupboards in the bedrooms or there could be separate shoe storage space near the home entrance or on the porch. Galoshes and outdoor boots are stored in the shoe storage racks near the entrance.
In a house, the one place that has the most storage space is the kitchen. Kitchen storage is very important and there are shelves, cupboards and cabinets with drawers that are used to store crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and all other kitchen utensils. All the storage space in the kitchen has to be designed for durability, practicality, and convenience, and it has to fit into the overall design of the house.
The other popular place used in a home for storage is the Garage storage area. Spare tyres, tools, gardening tools and extra bric-a-brac usually end up getting stored in the garage. Kids cycles, skis, and kayaks are also stored in a garage. So garage storage may be well organised with shelves, cupboards and hooks to store things in – or it can be chaotic!
Stainless steel storage cupboards are not necessarily lockers but are also used for storing clothes and valuables inside the home. In a modern home, stainless steel cupboards are used to give a sleek look to the home; and at work sites and in offices stainless steel storage cupboards are quite popular.
Storage benches are popular in the house, for example window storage benches. Storage trunks, foot lockers and storage cubes are great space savers and very popular, where a myriad of things need to be stored – and they are also great for travelling. They are popular for storing kid’s toys, and among military personnel and college students.
